What is Human Cloning - How to Clone - Is Cloning Ethical?

Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos - What is Human Cloning? How to Clone. But Ethical?

Read by hundreds of thousands of people, here are a large number of useful human cloning resources, articles, videos - and comments by other students - about the future of human cloning, what is cloning, how to clone, cloning animals, cloning humans, cloning organs, therapeutic cloning. Is cloning ethical? Scientists are able to make clones from a wide range of adult animals - and have done so in humans, with embryos which have been later destroyed.  Some groups have claimed in the past to have implanted these human clone embryos, in order to make a baby which is the identical twin of an existing adult, but so far there has been no proof that a human clone has ever been born.  Find out how human cloning is carried out.  Read arguments for and against cloning people.  Leave your own comments to help others with their own human cloning assignments, projects or homework.

Cloning dead people? Cloning of Mouse: Frozen for 16 years

Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos - What is Human Cloning? How to Clone. But Ethical?

Mice have been successfully cloned from another mouse which died 16 years ago, whose intact body was frozen at minus 20 degrees centigrade (1st November 2008). The Japanese research raises questions about whether extinct animals could be cloned from bodies preserved in permafrost, or indeed if a dead person could be "recovered", cloned as a time-warp identical baby twin made from tissue frozen at or before death. Cloning presents huge practical and ethical issues - with major risks to the health of cloned animals (or humans).

Human cloning: first embryo made in Korea or Britain? Archive 1998

Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos - What is Human Cloning? How to Clone. But Ethical?

A South Korean medical research team said on 16 December 1998 that they had succeeded in cultivating a human embryo using human cells, but claimed they had already been beaten by the British. Researchers at the infertility clinic of Kyunghee University Hospital in Seoul said they had grown a early human embryo in using an unfertilised egg and a cell donated by a woman in her 30s.  This follows an announcement four weeks earlier that another scientist had cloned himself using a cows egg in experiments kept secret for three years.

Designer babies - how biotech can help parents create a 'perfect' child - huge ethical questions about the future of human race. Pharma trends and Future of Biotech Keynote Speaker

Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos - What is Human Cloning? How to Clone. But Ethical?

Should genetic engineering or human cloning be used to create designer babies? - Patrick Dixon is a keynote speaker, writer and broadcaster on the future of health care, biotech and pharma.

Every parent wants a perfect child - but what happens when a parent wants a designer child - a child built to order, a pedigree child, a super-breed, super-human or just a baby with higher intelligence?  Sex selection is just the start of the process, a form of designer life: parents deciding that only a certain type of perfectly normal child will be allowed to be born.

Latest research is turning all these dreams into reality, using technology developed originally for use in animals.

* "How AI Will Change your life - A Futurist's Guide to a Super-Smart World" - Patrick Dixon's latest book on AI is published in September 2024 by Profile Books.  It contains 38 chapters on the impact of AI across different industries, government and our wider world, including the future impact of AI on genetic engineering and health care.

Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos - What is Human Cloning? How to Clone. But Ethical?

While most people would be horrified at the thought of murdering a newborn baby just because it is the wrong gender, this has been happening in India and China, possibly elsewhere. Reports suggest that the ratio of men to women in China has been profoundly altered as a result of the state single child policy.  Sex Selection has become a national issue.

Human Cloning: Made in America, Born elsewhere

Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos - What is Human Cloning? How to Clone. But Ethical?

Human cloning: human clones can be made but not born. That's the naïve verdict of President Clinton, and also of advisors to the British government this week (9/12/98). Make clones for medical research, to grow human tissues from embryonic stem cells, but don't implant them into the womb. (Archive Feature by Dr Patrick Dixon, Los Angeles Times December 1998)

Truth about Clonaid claims: first human clone - Eve - plus four more? Futurist keynote speaker on biotech innovation and pharma

Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos - What is Human Cloning? How to Clone. But Ethical?

Clonaid announced birth of "first human clone" on December 26th 2002. Eve was born by caesarean section after being created by Clonaid using a technique similar to that used to clone Dolly the sheep. Clonaid said they had four other mothers expecting to give birth to clones soon and announced a second birth to a Dutch lesbian woman early in January 2003 and a third to a Japanese couple who "cloned their dead son killed in an accident", plus two others in late January. All five babies were said to be well but with no independent verification whatsoever, doubts increased by the day. However,  it could only be a matter of time before some team or other can prove that they have won the global human cloning race.

Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos - What is Human Cloning? How to Clone. But Ethical?

The birth of the world’s first cloned human was condemned by British scientists today as another example of the “sordid depths” to which maverick physicians will sink. The claim by Clonaid announcing Boxing Day’s arrival of a baby girl called Eve born by caesarean section, will prompt “revulsion and disgust” throughout the world and will see 2003 go down in history of mankind as the Year of the Clone - Dr. Patrick Dixon.
