Winston Churchill once said:  "If you want to understand the future, study the past".  One thing is certain: transport systems built over the last 2000 years will still leave traces on the landscape or shape of cities for the next 2000 years.  Take Roman Roads in Britain, which still define Britain today. Aviation produces up to 5% of national carbon emissions in countries like the UK, growing every year  - 2% globally.  However, because of the relative impact of vapour trails, cirrhus cloud formation and other factors, it is likely that this 2% represents 3.5% - 5% of the total human impact of global warming. 

Many aircraft flying today were made over 25 years ago and waste fuel. Simple steps can be taken to improve fuel efficiency in older planes – by as much as 7%.

The most important way to reduce motoring costs, reduce carbon use in transport, improve air quality and reduce global warming. City cars costing 1p per mile in electricity, range 200 miles. Ultra-cheap, safe, vehicles with zero emissions, which can be easily customised. Burning fuel in a small, mobile engine is inefficient compared to industrial power generators. If the electricity used is generated from wind, solar, waves, tide or nuclear fuel then electric cars have zero emissions. Either way, air quality improves dramatically in cities.
